The development of LIFE+ SANePLAN will provide a tool to improve the management of sanitation and urban planning from the operation, engineering and environment point of views.

From the operational point of view, the project includes data preparation and recovery thereof through technological support that allows access to the information in a structured manner, with the necessary attributes for different management needs and properly georeferenced.

The information provision through Internet and the requirement established in the project taking into account the multiple administrations involved in the management process of sanitation and urban planning, and also the trends towards the development of joint services, will let to have a system which integrate the different management needs from the actors involved in these processes.

From the engineering point of view, SANePLAN includes, firstly, the mathematical modeling of Sanitation Systems and the provision of results to managers, through the information system to be developed; on the other hand, allows the establishment of current and future scenarios that analyze the robustness and capacity of drainage systems under conditions of population increases, economic constraints, environmental conditions (land use and protection of natural spaces) effects of climate change (impact of the variation of the average temperature in rainfall patterns).

From the environmental point of view, SANePLAN should help improve the impact of sanitation systems by allowing on the one hand, information about the risks and deficiencies found, and, on the other hand, to facilitate the dimensioning of networks and facilities based on real needs, both present and future, avoiding over-or under-sizing.
